To service and maintain Electric and Diesel Locomotives as per Rail Regulator Standards, ensuring all work is carried out safely and that breakdowns are attended to timeously to minimise equipment standing time and avoid production delays.

• Grade 12 Certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science (NQF Level 4) is essential.
• Electrical Fitter Trade Certificate (Red Seal) is essential.
• 4-6 years previous working experience, especially on 8E Electric locomotives.
• UM10B (Class 91) Diesel and U26C (Class 34-400) diesel experience would be an advantage.
• Valid medical certificate or medically fit to obtain such certificate.
• Sound knowledge of electrical rotating machinery and their control circuits (High voltage and medium voltage).
• Good knowledge of fault finding on electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Good knowledge of brake systems and ability to do brake tests.
• Ability to read advanced schematics and drawings.
• Good knowledge of PLC operating systems and electronic card control systems (advantageous).
• Computer literacy (MS Office) is essential; SAP knowledge would be an advantage.

• Service and conduct preventative maintenance on a regular basis to prevent breakdowns and equipment failure on locomotives.
• Attend to breakdowns timeously and effectively to minimise equipment standing time and avoid production delays.
• Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner as per Impala safety standards, rules, and procedures.
• Ensure all defects are reported to the relevant Foreman without delay.
• Effectively supervise, delegate, and take charge of subordinates.
• Ensure all legal appointments are inspected and maintained on a regular basis.
• Ensure all SAP job cards and service papers are completed and handed in for processing.
• Effectively execute instructions of the Loco Shed Foreman.
• Comply with ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System standards.
• Conduct brake tests and maintain brake systems on locomotives.
• Diagnose and repair faults on electrical and mechanical equipment.
