Medical Specialist Grade 1-3

To provide direct clinical services and manage adult psychiatric inpatient or outpatient units, providing care, treatment, and rehabilitation to mental health care users within the framework of the Mental Health Care Act (No 17 of 2002), while also contributing to teaching, training, research, and quality improvement programs.

• Medical MBBCh or equivalent degree.
• Appropriate qualification in Psychiatry (FC Psych (SA), MMed (Psych), or equivalent recognised by HPCSA).
• Current registration with HPCSA as an independent specialist psychiatrist.
• Sound clinical knowledge and skills in psychiatry and child psychiatry.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to fulfil required teaching and training requirements.
• Valid driver's license.

• Provide direct clinical service and manage an adult psychiatric inpatient or outpatient unit.
• Provide care, treatment, and rehabilitation to mental health care users within the framework of the Mental Health Care Act (No 17 of 2002).
• Provide outreach services to District Health Services and District/Regional hospitals.
• Teach and train medical students, medical officers, psychiatry registrars, and other personnel.
• Stimulate, assist with, and conduct research relevant to the Gauteng Department of Health and Department of Psychiatry.
• Supervise and manage junior staff, including disciplinary responsibilities when necessary.
• Participate actively in hospital management committees, quality improvement programs, clinical audits, and morbidity and mortality meetings.
