Senior Account Executive - Public Sector

Description
SAP is seeking a Senior Account Executive for the South African Public Sector to lead SAP's engagement with national, provincial, and local government customers. This role focuses on driving net-new business, deepening executive relationships, and positioning SAP's solutions as essential to digital transformation and PFMA/MFMA-aligned service-delivery excellence. The successful candidate will develop and execute go-to-market strategies, build trusted relationships with senior officials, and lead complex sales cycles.
Requirements
- Proven success selling enterprise software to the South African public sector
- Deep knowledge of PFMA, MFMA, SCM policies, tendering rules, and related governance frameworks
- Experience building and executing account or territory strategies
- Ability to engage credibly with senior government stakeholders and influence strategic direction
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to manage complex sales engagements and lead virtual account teams
- Understanding of project management principles (formal certifications advantageous)
- Bachelor's degree in Business, IT, or related field (preferred)
- Willingness to travel 0-10% as required
- South African citizenship or valid work authorization
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies to acquire and grow public sector accounts
- Build trusted relationships with senior officials including Directors-General, CFOs, CIOs, and SCM leaders
- Lead complex sales cycles, aligning SAP's portfolio to government priorities and regulatory requirements
- Create compelling business cases that map public sector challenges to SAP's value proposition
- Drive customer adoption and long-term value realization to support sustained account growth
- Collaborate with partners and SAP teams to deliver an integrated, high-quality customer experience
- Position SAP's solutions as essential to digital transformation initiatives
- Ensure compliance with PFMA, MFMA, and tendering regulations in all sales activities
- Manage account strategies to achieve net-new business targets
- Contribute to national-scale digital transformation projects within the public sector
