Shift Supervisor

To supervise a section of the workings of the mine in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulation 2.15, ensuring all work procedures are carried out in accordance with safety standards and practices.

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent (essential).
• Blasting Certificate (essential).
• Shift Supervisor Certificate (essential).
• 1-3 years' experience as a Miner (essential).
• Knowledge of basic health and safety principles in the workplace.
• Understanding of the causes of Falls of Ground (FOG).
• Knowledge of the Platinum Safety Rules.
• Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act, regulations, and definitions.
• Understanding of legislation and compliance with the DMRE.
• Understanding of legal terms and requirements related to rock breaking.
• Knowledge of principles of support in an underground hard rock environment.

• Ensure all work procedures are carried out in accordance with safety standards and safety practices.
• Plan production targets for the mining section.
• Ensure measures are in place to achieve production targets.
• Attend to and solve problems within areas of responsibility.
• Plan, organise, lead, and control activities in the mining operations process.
• Coordinate drilling and blasting operations.
• Charge shot holes with primed explosives.
• Install initiating systems used in blasting operations underground.
• Time blasting rounds or circuits on a face where shock tubes are used.
• Initiate blasts from a central blasting cubicle on the surface.
• Treat and remove misfires as required.
